Inspiration Behind Fossil Food Catering

We were asked over the weekend on the way back from our first wedding of the season from one of our front of house team ‘what was the inspiration behind creating Fossil Food Catering?’ As we enter our 5th season as a wedding catering business this got us feeling reflective of our journey.

The short answer is relationships. We both feel really strongly that your wedding day is not just any day. Your wedding day should be the best day of your lives. This requires a lot of trust and support in your team of suppliers and vice versa. 

More than just a wedding caterer

Chef Steve has many years working in the wedding industry for other catering companies before Fossil Food Catering both here and overseas. Often he would often rock up to each wedding with a van of food and no understanding of the mechanics of the day. He wouldn’t know the couple's name, nor anything about them. This method worked really well for serving a delicious wedding breakfast but we both felt like something was lacking in the process which is why we started Fossil Food Catering. 

The long answer is we strive to be more than just your wedding caterer. Our vision is to create a feast that you and your favourite people will remember for years to come backed up by a service that goes above and beyond - both on the day and lead up. We chose in the beginning to purposely cap the number of weddings we cater each year with a business owner present at each wedding delivering on promises and plans made together and have stuck to our roots ever since. This stems from our ethos of offering a quality over quantity service.

Bespoke menus

This meal paints a picture celebrating you both - telling your story. Adventures shared together and foods you love to eat (not because Uncle Bob likes it). To successfully deliver this requires an open stream of communication to share details with us - for example your engagement story or how you met. Every detail sparks an idea!

Each and every menu we offer is completely unique around you. Created with seasonality, local produce sustainability at the heart - no two menus are ever the same. This in turn offers a meal completely bespoke and never been offered before.

Our role goes beyond your menu. We build your kitchen space, liaise the hire of cutlery and crockery to suit your style preferences, offer support in timings of your day and supplier recommendations. We ask those questions you may not have even thought you needed an answer for to ensure nothing is missed.

We are here as your sounding block on the days it feels a little bit like you are climbing Everest, to run through how a certain scenario will work or vent about the politics of your table plan. We are not just your wedding caterer, but your cheerleaders too.

On the day we are buzzing to welcome you with a glass of your choice of drink waiting for you with a huge beaming smile and excited congratulations. Followed by our amazing team fueling celebrations all day long ensuring you and your favourites are well hydrated and fed all day long.
